The Institute of Microbiology of Yunnan Province

The Institute of Microbiology of Yunnan Province came into being with the approval of the National Scientifical Commision in 1979 and was incorporated into Yunnan University in 1997.At present it has 46 scientific and technological personnel; among them there are 21 advanced personnel ,five professors and 12 visiting professors. The professional work here is geared to the development and use of the rich resources in Yunnan Province. It is an important component of the key laboratory of the Ministry of Education for the open research of microbiological resources. It has a local working station of joint laboratory of natural medicine, which cooperates with the Northern China Pharmaceutical Corporation and the Experiment Base of Yunnan Branch Attached to the Scientific and Technological Development Institute of China

The institute has so far assumed and accomplished a major program of National Foundation Award, 13 general programs, 3 international cooperative programs, 12 advancement programs of national high and new technology industrialization, 1 key program ,3 key programs of Yunnan Province, 5 programs of a provincial fund , and 6 international cooperative programs. The institute has made an important contribution to China’s microbiological research and has published 200 papers at home and abroad and 7 science works. It has obtained a National Invention Award and 8 first, second ,and third class awards in science and tech progress administered by the Ministry of Education.

The institute puts into effect the system of visiting scholars and has recruited 6 doctors /associate professors as visiting scholars from home and abroad on a one-year working program; it also recruits doctors and masters. Also, the institute carries out cooperative researches with institutes, universities and businesses.

Microbiological resources of extreme environment, resources of unknown microbiology, pharmaceutical development of microbiology and pesticide development of microbiology are the key fields of research in this institute. It has assumed the collection and preservation of germplasm resources base of wild organisms in Yunnan, and has built an extraction base of microbiology.
